Developing an Actor's Voice
July 11 & 18, 10:00 - 1:00
La Jolla Playhouse, La Jolla CA
SOLD OUT

This workshop explores how liberating your natural speaking voice can be fun!  It is designed for anyone who is curious about how their voice works and actors who are interested in performance.  The first session will create an ensemble with introductory games and a vocal warm-up.  You will attend an imaginary "voice spa" to help alleviate physical tensions that restrict your voice.  Throughout the session you will work on a self-chosen text and apply exercises to expand your breathing and explore vocal connection to image thought and feeling.  The second Saturday will focus on strengthening your voice through play with resonance, range and articulation.  Experiments with text will continue and participants share their work with the group at the end of the workshop. Wear loose, comfortable clothes - we will be doing gentle floor work along with standing, sitting, moving and adventuring throughout the class!

Testimonials from previous workshops-

Summer 2025, San Diego CA - "I had the pleasure of participating in Debra Hale's one day Linklater workshop.  I am amazed that I was able to learn so much about my own voice and concrete exercises and techniques to improve my breath and voice range in just one day.  Deb spent one on one time with each student, ensuring that we understood and were applying the different techniques.  She created a safe atmosphere to express our emotions, ask questions and explore our imaginations.  I highly encourage everyone to take her class."  Christine McCoy, Actress
